Paul A. Lang

Paul A. Lang is senior vice president of operations for Arch Coal, Inc. Arch Coal is one of the nation’s largest coal producers, with 2007 revenues of $2.5 billion. Lang is responsible for the company’s national network of mines.

Since joining Arch in 1984, Lang has held a series of engineering, operating and management positions in eight divisions during his 24-year career with the company. Most recently, he held the position of President of Thunder Basin Coal Co. and Arch of Wyoming, followed by President of Western Operations.

A native of Utah and Colorado, Lang is a registered professional engineer licensed in six states and serves on the Society of Mining Engineers professional registration committee, the University of Wyoming’s School of Energy Resources Council and the Development Board of the Missouri University of Science and Technology. In addition, he served as a commissioner for two terms on the Wyoming Healthcare Commission.

Lang received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla in Mining Engineering, as well as an honorary professional degree in Mining Engineering. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Lang and his wife, Kathleen, have two daughters and live in St. Louis, Missouri.
